I'm skeptical over the concept of web services as envisioned by the BigCo's. Here's my current take on the Web Services brouhaha.

I should not that I think what Dave's doing is fundamentally different because of his sometimes frustrating approach of putting code right into production. We coders love and hate him for it (as things start to gel with radio/OPML/etc, I have to say the pendulum is swinging to the positive side).

EWEEK: At Microsoft, Security Trumps App Compatibility This move is so tactically brilliant it's awe-inspiring. Almost every software co itches to trash the design constraints imposed by backwards compatibility in exchange for pursuing the newest and greatest features. Microsoft has supported it better than most, but now they can ditch compatibility and spin it as a security initiative.

I hate them. They're brilliant.

At the same time, they can screw over WINE, Crossover Office, Lindows and Win4Lin by changing their APIs. It's so anti-competitive, yet defensible. Who says they learned nothing by their antitrust case? :-)
