" Whereas conventional OLAP will typically perform on top of a data warehouse, OLAP4All is a complete OLAP platform developed by EBM Software. OLAP4All integrates data sources and creates a dimensional data warehouse optimized for business analysis on the fly. It is somehow a "shortcut" to classical data warehousing and conventional OLAP. OLAP4All architecture

OLAP4All is a J2SE (Java 2 Standard Edition) client/server solution that runs on any hardware platform and can integrate with virtually any database. The OLAP4All server is the main component and responsible for linking data sources and communicating to clients. Figure 3.1 gives an overview on the OLAP4All architecture.

The data from the source systems - sources can be either relational or legacy data bases, text files or an existing data warehouse - will be loaded by the OLAP4All server and "staged" in a relational data format. MySQL is used by default for staging the source data and storing OLAP and specific metadata. "
