VirtualIron is more of an application-level, clustering-via-virtualization solution than an arbitrary OS-level virtualization solution like VmWare.

NOTE: Requires Infiniband et al interconnects

"Virtual Iron VFe combines industry-standard physical systems into a large powerful virtual computer. This virtual computer can be shared by multiple virtual servers of different sizes, each of which is capable of running a different operating system in full isolation."

"VFe allows up to 10 operating systems to run concurrently on a physical processor, a single operating system spanning 16 processors, or any combination between, all sharing the same physical resources. The system can be dynamically expanded or contracted without interacting with hardware or shutting down operating systems or applications. "

"VFe supports virtualization of disk I/O and network I/O devices, allowing limited physical resources in a system to be shared."
