gps+digital photos+text = web travelogue

http://www.smartmobs.com/archives/002101.html

I just bought a garmin eTrex Legend handheld gps, because I thought it would be cool to render stuff like this:

With a gps tracklog (collecting my x,y, and t) and a set of digital images (tagged with t), I should be able to geo-encode my photos pretty easily. Navigating from my event-documenting images through to other people's photos and/or commentary about whatever it was I'm taking a picture of, and maintaining a high signal-to-noise ratio, would be quite a feat. I hope someone takes a stab at it that doesn't rely on centralized control (as mentioned in the smartmobs link).
