Slick looking UML hosting
Linode. yosemitesam pointed me to Linode a few days ago. Linode makes use of User Mode Linux, which allows many virtual Linux virtual machines on top of one actual Linux based machine. As far as a user of a virtual machine is concerned, they have an entire machine to themselves. Resources are limited per virtual machine, and CPU time is throttled for a minimum guaranteed use. Users can choose which Linux distribution they like, along with partitioning their disks, just like a real machine. ...
You can deploy different distributions to your virtual server, and they give you 2G storage for $20/month. Similar offers that I've seen only recommend developer-type of loads, but they don't seem to qualify it that way.

IM and 911
http://news.com.com/2010-7352_3-5113983.html?tag=nefd_gutspro
Declan mentions a solution to lack of 911 support in VOIP down at the
bottom of the article: allowing your VOIP phone to take on an active
intermediary role, routing a 911 emergency request over more than one
communciation medium to make sure it
gets through quickly
alerts all relevant parties nearby
That's a pretty substantial upgrade whenever it becomes feasible.
