Desktop Java Backflips

If I had a worst enemy, I would not wish this on them.

Update: This was a little cryptic, and based on some email prodding I thought I'd elaborate. Based on Rick's article, it just seems like using desktop Java for serious applications involves way more knowledge of the JVM etc. than anyone should really need. I think the knowledge Rick has accumulated on making this work is admirable, but it also makes you wonder how many development teams have the time or skill to jump through this many hoops. I guess the scarcity of Java desktop apps reflects this, but really, why hasn't Sun gotten around to fixing this after so many versions of Java?

What fraction of Sun's manpower is Miguel & Co using to deliver a solution effective for both server and desktop?
