Virtualization's next frontier
I ran across this interesting anecdote from a family practice physician who has implemented OpenEMR for their medical records platform (+SQL Ledger for accounting).
The interesting part is that they're running it using VMWare Player on an XP laptop. This means they're running their business on open source, but not paying any *nix system adminstration tax on their configuration or making painful choices about migrating away from Windows apps + drivers. Excellent.
Open source gets really big when the pieces work well enough that you can forget the fact that you're running it. VMWare-player-as-runtime-wrapper goes a long way to making that a reality for small biz.
